The spiral Building
City: New York City
Year: 2023 - 2028
Scale: 45,000 sq ft
At The Spiral, our landscape work extends the project’s defining architectural narrative: a continuous ribbon of greenery that spirals upward through New York’s skyline. Designed for one of Manhattan’s most dynamic new office towers, this elevated landscape environment transforms outdoor terraces into living extensions of the High Line-inspired concept, weaving nature into every floor of the building.
Strategically integrated into the cascading outdoor terrace system that wraps around all 66 stories, our planting approach enhances the building’s vertical green ribbon with a careful selection of trees, shrubs, and perennial plantings suited for the unique microclimates created at height. Each planting zone responds to orientation, wind exposure, and sun intensity, ensuring longevity, resilience, and a rich seasonal experience.
This landscape plays a critical role in humanizing the built environment — offering occupants access to fresh air, daylight, and meaningful contact with nature from every level, while reinforcing The Spiral’s commitment to biophilic design and workplace wellbeing. The result is an ascending habitat that harmonizes cultivated greenery and soaring urban form, redefining what it means to bring landscape to the skyline.
